The work consists of numerous square lamps in different sizes attached to the roof of the tunnel. The lights break up the heavy concrete structure and give the passerby the feeling that the sun breaks through. There are some openings where daylight shines into the tunnel.
The lights act to increase the area already illuminated by the sun, the lit area grows and shrinks, extending from the openings and back again.
The shorter the distance to the opening, the more lights there are, so that the light of the lamps and the daylight melt together. Inside and outside spaces are connected, as if the sunlight breaks through the concrete.
The tunnel is beneath a new train station and is part of the science park project from the UvA, NWO and the Municipality of Amsterdam
